Fairseas in South Atlantic dash

In one of their more unusual shipments, Cape Town based Fairseas International despatched at short notice last week one of their charter vessels, the 11000dwt Team Bremen

in a dash against time to uplift the stricken Puma racing team yacht Mar Mostro which was dismasted in the South Atlantic during the first leg of the current around the world Volvo Ocean Race.

With the race due to resume from Cape Town on 10th December and events unfolding at very short notice Team Bremen had to divert from Durban to to Cape Town on 27 November for literally a few hours to collect a cradle and lifting gear and then proceed at high speed to Tristan da Cunha Island where the 22m yacht and crew had to be safely uplifted from the open ocean waters off Tristan da Cunha Island, once again in a turn-around of a few hours and then return again at maximum speed to Cape Town where a new mast awaits fitting in a round -the -clock race to make the next leg start.

Fairseas director Liam Mckenzie paid tribute to all involved in the operation for their professionalism under difficult circumstances and the all round " Team " work involved in making the operation a success at such short notice. The vessel is due back at Cape Town on Tuesday evening.
